Feng Chia University Leads M6 System and Taichung Metro in Training MRT Talent for Central Taiwan

With the Taichung City Government actively promoting the "Seven Lines in Parallel" MRT network blueprint, the demand for urban MRT professionals is set to rise sharply. On September 9, Taichung Metro Corporation and the six universities of the Central Taiwan University System (M6) officially signed an industry-academia cooperation MOU at the Smart City Shared Learning Hall of Feng Chia University. Feng Chia University took the lead in initiating this collaboration, jointly creating a new model for talent cultivation that bridges academia and industry, injecting new momentum into the MRT industry and urban development in Central Taiwan.

The signing ceremony, witnessed by Secretary-General Chung-Tien Huang of the Taichung City Government, was completed by Chairman Bang-Chieh Yen of Taichung Metro Corporation, President Vey Wang of Feng Chia University, President Kuo-En Chang of Tunghai University, Vice President Chao-Shun Yang of Providence University, Vice President Neng-Yi Shih of Asia University, Vice President Po-Jen Hsueh of China Medical University, and Vice President Hsien-Ying Sung of Chung Shan Medical University. This symbolizes the joint efforts of the city government, industry, and academia to lay the groundwork for the new era of MRT in Greater Taichung.

After the signing, Secretary-General Chung-Tien Huang, the chairman and executives of Taichung Metro, presidents and vice presidents of the six M6 universities, and Feng Chia faculty took a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

Since 2017, Feng Chia University has collaborated with the Taipei City Government Department of Rapid Transit Systems (2017) and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (2018) to launch the Smart Railway Transportation Program, integrating resources from construction, information engineering, business, and architecture to cultivate railway professionals. Starting in 2025, Feng Chia will cooperate with Taichung Metro to add new courses such as "Introduction to Railway Electromechanical Systems," "Railway Systems Practice," and "Railway Operation and Management," enabling students to accumulate practical knowledge and connect with future employment needs while still in school.Chairman Bang-Chieh Yen of Taichung Metro Corporation pointed out that this collaboration originated from the foundation of cooperation with Feng Chia University in the Smart Railway Transportation Program and has now expanded to all M6 universities. Through industry-academia collaboration and cross-university elective courses, the goal is to jointly cultivate local railway talent and extend interdisciplinary technical exchange and cooperation, injecting new energy into the MRT industry and urban development.

President Vey Wang of Feng Chia University stated that the MRT system not only facilitates transportation but also drives urban development and the formation of industrial chains, with talent being the key. Feng Chia has already launched the Smart Railway Transportation Program, and this collaboration further expands to the M6 University System, building a local talent cultivation network through cross-university electives and interdisciplinary cooperation. President Wang emphasized that this is an important milestone in industry-academia cooperation, injecting new vitality into central Taiwan's industry and local talent cultivation.Secretary-General Chung-Tien Huang of the Taichung City Government, who attended as a city representative and Feng Chia alumnus, recalled his early experience in high-speed rail planning and pointed out that Taichung is entering a new era of railway construction. The "Seven Lines in Parallel" will bring huge financial and professional talent needs, covering fields from electromechanical engineering, ticketing, marketing, to management. He affirmed the importance of industry-academia cooperation, believing that combining university courses with industry practice can cultivate professionals early and ensure sustainable urban development.

The signing ceremony attracted attention from all sectors, including Director Shan-Chih Lee of the Legal Affairs Bureau, Deputy Director Chun-Liang Chiang of the Transportation Bureau, Chief Engineer Kuo-Shu Huang of the Rapid Transit Systems Office, and representatives from the Legislative Yuan, as well as many MRT executives, Feng Chia faculty, and students, demonstrating the high importance placed on MRT talent cultivation and sustainable urban development.
