"Hello World!"—The First Greeting for Over 4,000 New Students at Feng Chia University

From September 1st to 3rd, Feng Chia University held the 2025 Freshman Growth Camp with the theme "Hello World!", symbolizing the courage of new students to greet the future world with enthusiasm. The event incorporated elements of AI, internationalization, interdisciplinary learning, and the spirit of common good, making it not just an orientation, but a ceremonial start for freshmen stepping into a new world. The opening ceremony was held in two sessions (morning and afternoon) at the Sports Center, officially unveiling a new chapter in university life for the students.

Chairperson Cheng-Shu Kao, President Vey Wang, and many faculty members participated throughout the Freshman Growth Camp, accompanying nearly 4,000 new students as they embarked on their university journey. President Vey Wang encouraged freshmen to bravely explore, to measure the world with their own steps, making the world the broadest classroom, and to find mentors and partners for growth at Feng Chia. Chairperson Cheng-Shu Kao inspired new students with the message, "Before education, everyone is equal," emphasizing that regardless of background, Feng Chia is committed to providing a high-quality learning, living, and aesthetic environment, supporting students to show their passion and find their direction here.

The Hot Dance Club, Melody Guitar Club, Pop Music Club, and Dalan Reunion Club took turns performing, while Kahoot! interactive games ignited the freshmen’s enthusiasm.

A highlight of this year's event was the Club Expo, held for the first time in the newly completed Virtuosi Hall. All 70 student clubs moved in, transforming classrooms, public spaces, and even outdoor areas into stages for performances, interaction, and exchange, allowing freshmen to experience the vibrant campus culture of Feng Chia in one go. Over 620 senior students enthusiastically served as group leaders, guiding freshmen through the campus and participating in a variety of activities from the opening ceremony, Club Expo, concerts, to departmental projects, keeping the orientation atmosphere lively.

For the first time, the Club Expo was held in Virtuosi Hall, with all 70 student clubs gathering together. Nearly 4,000 freshmen entered the venue, exploring and discovering the diverse charms of each club.

Another new highlight this year is the "Meet the Seniors" event on September 2nd, where nearly 160 outstanding current students and recent alumni from each department are invited back to campus to share their experiences face-to-face with freshmen in small group sessions. From international exchange, professional competitions, certification exams, interdisciplinary learning, internships to club experiences, these real and diverse stories provide freshmen with a more concrete blueprint for university life. These peer experiences not only offer direction but also encourage freshmen to bravely challenge themselves and map out their own learning journey.

In addition, Feng Chia University has long promoted the CDIO Project-Based Curriculum, recognizing that "competition" is one of the most effective ways to drive student learning. This year, this spirit is extended to freshmen, with the first-ever university-wide competition introduced in the "Freshman Project" on September 2nd and 3rd. Under the guidance of faculty and senior students, freshmen will explore basic learning and hands-on projects in their fields, and from September 23rd to 26th, participate in the "University-wide Freshman Project Competition." Teams from each department will compete for honors through creativity, teamwork, and project presentations, allowing freshmen to experience the unique atmosphere of "learning through projects" at Feng Chia from the very beginning.
