VISA & ARC
Before coming to Taiwan, you should apply for either a Resident or Visitor Visa (depending on your intended length of stay) on the Bureau of Consular Affairs website, using the acceptance letter issued by Feng Chia University.
Please look up the Taiwan Diplomatic Mission in your country of residence by visiting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (Click here).

If you are a Mainland China Passport holder, you will need to enter Taiwan with an Entry Permit. According to the regulations of the National Immigration Agency, OIA will help you with the application for an Entry Permit. If you would like to learn more about it, please get in touch with your FCU exchange student coordinator.
Visitor VISA
- Eligible Persons: For those stay in Taiwan for no more than 6 months. (more information)
- If the duration of stay listed on your visa does not cover the full length of your exchange period, you may need to apply for a Visitor Visa Extension at least 30 days before expire date.
Residence VISA
- Eligible Persons: For those stay in Taiwan for more than 6 months. (more information)
- Within 30 days of receiving a Resident Visa or on the next day of arrival, you must apply for an Alien Resident Certification(ARC) on the National Immigration Agency website.
Insurance
Students who are joining the on-campus exchange program are required to purchase their own insurance in their home country before traveling to Taiwan.
Please provide proof of insurance in Chinese or English valid for your entire exchange period for the following:
- Accident insurance worth a minimum of NTD 1,000,000 (approx. USD 34,000)
- Medical insurance worth a minimum of NTD 1,000,000 (approx. USD 34,000)
Health Exam Requirement
All students need to do 2 health checks in total (before& after arrival).
You must obtain a hard copy of either the Health Certificate for Residence Application (Form B) or the Medical Examination Requirements for Short-Term Students (Form C), and complete the health examination with a qualified doctor in your home country within 3 months prior to the registration date.
Please ensure that you submit the original hard copies, including the vaccination certificate for Measles & Rubella and the Chest X-ray for Tuberculosis Report, to FCU to fulfill the registration requirements.
Accommodation
On-campus dormitories are unfortunately not available for exchange students. However, we have provided some off-campus accommodation options below that may be helpful. Please note that the University does not arrange off-campus housing for students. We encourage you to seek support from your assigned buddy during your search for housing. Kindly be aware that buddies are unable to assist with accommodation contracts. For more information on housing, please click here.
The average rent in Taichung is around NT$7,000-8,500 per month, in addition to a deposit fee of NT$10,000-15,000.
Buddy System
To help you better prepare and familiarize yourself with life at FCU, the OIA will assign a buddy to you before your arrival. Once you receive a welcome email from your student volunteer, please respond directly to their message.
If you haven’t heard from your buddy two weeks prior to the start of the semester, kindly reach out to your FCU exchange student coordinator.

Undergraduate students must take between 12 and 25 credits per semester, while graduate students must take between 3 and 12 credits.
Please noted that courses offered by the International School of Technology and Management (ISTM) are not available to exchange students.
