


Feng Chia University’s First Freshman Project Competition Debuts: Department of Electronic Engineering Wins Gold, Department of Marketing Receives Social Popularity Award
Feng Chia University held its first-ever “University-wide Freshman Project Competition” in 2025, guiding new students to immerse themselves in a CDIO learning environment centered on “learning by doing, doing by learning” from their very first day on campus. The project courses, held from September 2 to 3, featured outstanding teams from each department, who continued to refine their projects in their spare time. The final results exhibition was held at Virtuosi Hall from September 23 to 26, attracting over a thousand faculty and students for observation and exchange.On the morning of September 26, the opening ceremony took place grandly in the main auditorium of Virtuosi Hall, with 39 freshman teams gathering together. In his speech, Vice President Kuo-Hao Tang stated that Virtuosi Hall is the practical field for Feng Chia’s borderless campus “Living Showcase.” Through open and transparent spatial design, it creates an environment where teaching and learning inspire and interact with each other. He emphasized that the competition showcases not only achievements but also embodies “collaborative learning,” encouraging students to gradually cultivate professional skills through interdisciplinary interaction.

After the opening ceremony, the 39 freshman teams presented their projects and results to the judges in sequence and responded to questions on site. Ultimately, the team from the Department of Electronic Engineering—composed of Dong-Chi Huang, Tsung-Wen Chen, Chung-Wen Yu, Yuan-Heng Lin, Hsin-Yen Chen, and Po-Hsiang Huang—stood out and won the Gold Award with their project “Eye of the Mountain God—Debris Flow Early Warning System.” This system combines humidity and acceleration sensors to create a low-cost monitoring device that can instantly detect soil moisture and slope movement, automatically issuing warnings before danger occurs. This innovative design not only addresses the real challenges Taiwan faces with frequent typhoons and earthquakes but also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13 Climate Action), demonstrating the creative energy of freshmen in integrating professional knowledge with social responsibility.

Thirty-nine freshman teams presented their projects and results to the judges in sequence and responded to questions on site, showcasing the courage and innovative energy of newcomers.

The freshman team from the Department of Marketing not only received the Bronze Award but also won the Social Popularity Award.
Feng Chia University stated that the Freshman Project Competition is not just a contest, but an important platform for fostering cross-departmental exchange, teamwork, and self-challenge. The university hopes that students can establish practical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities from the very start of their university journey. In the future, each department’s anchor courses will also hold project competitions in the second semester of the freshman year, continuously promoting growth through project practice and university-level competitions, making “growing through challenges” the most valuable learning mark for every Feng Chia freshman.
