In settler-colonizer societies where Indigenous rights have become a key issue in defining societal histories and identities , academic work around Indigenous issues is often both important and valued. But it is rarely ‘easy’. Drawing on more than forty years working with and for Indigenous groups in Australia, and more recent experience in Taiwan, this presentation offers insights into the challenges and rewards of such collaboration and explores important differences between working with, working for and working on Indigenous peoples.
