Department of Automatic Control Engineering student Chen was so found in space that droved him attend the Mars program. With his classmate Yang, they participated in the "Waste to Base Materials Challenge: Sustainable Reprocessing in Space" competition organized by NASA on the HeroX platform. It was a great encouragement for both of them to have their brilliant ideas awarded by NASA.

畊甫 陳's team won the Waste to Base Materials Challenge: Sustainable Reprocessing in Space.

The challenge is a crowdsourcing initiative that will help NASA improve future space missions by proposing ways to allow effective reprocessing, recycling, and reuse of onboard resources. They utilize the first principle of "dry distillation" to thermally crack human waste in a device designed to make carbon fiber as a material for 3D printing in space and graphene as a backup wire. The future space program for Mars migration can significantly reduce the weight of the launch. (Hero X information)

They kept brainstorming ideas and discussed the feasibility of the design with students in the AI Foundry, and finally completed and eventually favored by NASA! The experience gave them confidence and a better understanding, and they continued to collaborate in several competitions, and both received good results. They also encourage students interested in mechanical and electrical integration or innovative design to join iOS Club or AI Club to learn more skills. Learn independently, develop soft skills "beyond the textbook", and participate in challenges or competitions in the country or other countries.
