Zhang Shengjie, Director of Mercuries Life Insurance, Change Carrer from Doctor to Insurance Industry

Why would a surgeon put down the scalpel? After changing his life track, how did he diagnose the life of his clients and become an insurance doctor? The second lecture of the School of Finance "Financial Innovation Field-Insurance Series Lectures" on May 6, invited director Zhang Shengjie of Mercuries Life Insurance to talk about his journey from a surgeon to the insurance industry.

Director Zhang first shared his learning history. Because of his mother's strict requirements, he followed the table to exercise classes from an early age and was successfully admitted to Jianguo Middle School. Ranked 5th from the bottom in the first segment test, he tasted a setback for his outstanding performance. He revised the method of reading, relying on hard memorization, and finally he returned to the school's fourth-place outstanding performance. The second turning point occurred in the senior year. The teacher's PBL (problem-based learning) teaching method made him feel like he was so useless. The teacher guided learning with questions, and then grouped discussions, collected materials, and proposed solutions. He could only watch the students discuss and ask questions in a daze, but he had no ideas at all. Every turning point made him comprehend something, and relied on the belief that "to live is achievement" to redouble his efforts, so that he could stand out from the rest, smoothly from Jianzhong to Yangming Department of Medicine, and finally became a doctor.

What triggered Director Zhang’s change of track was the news that a surgeon was sentenced to a huge compensation. He realized that a doctor has a fixed career and gave up his job as a doctor. What else can he do? When his golfer, who is also the current supervisor, asked him "Ajie, do you want to do insurance?", he began to think about what he wanted? What irreplaceable ability do you have? He found that the insurance business is a job with warmth, care and a little more care. Insurance is not promoting products to customers, but shaping a "personal brand." With the firm belief of "bringing protection to customers before risks occur", he started another career as an insurance doctor.

Finally, Director Zhang concluded with the six words "courage, challenge, opportunity". He said that mature people are responsible for themselves, see clearly, understand, make their own decisions, be responsible for themselves, respect professionalism, and maintain goodwill and sincerity.
